Large format additive manufacturing is pushing the boundaries of scale to new heights. At Aibuild, our software powers machines capable of printing entire houses in a single build, with projects at this scale, tight integration of hardware, software, and materials is paramount. Add to this the demand for flawless aesthetics, and the challenge of LFAM becomes clear: every element must work in perfect harmony.
The Wending: A Beacon of Collaboration, Creativity and Sustainability
Collaboration is Key
Enter the importance of partnerships, collaboration and knowledge sharing. It’s not enough to develop great products in isolation. As a growing LFAM community, we need to work together to share findings, tackle challenges, and celebrate achievements that inspire innovation across the globe.
Hyperion Systems: A Milestone Achievement of Art & Engineering
A powerful example of collaboration in action comes from our Australian partners, Hyperion Systems and the completion of their recent milestone project in Australia. They have successfully completed a 3D printed structure standing at 3.8 metres tall and using close to a tonne of recycled polymers. This project is one of the most ambitious 3D printing undertakings ever carried out in Australia and really shows the power of collaboration, creativity, and sustainable technology.
Commissioned for the Central Regional TAFE Kalgoorlie campus in Government of Western Australia, “The Wending”, by artist Linda Rae Belton, was inspired by the majestic Goldfields Gum. This towering, solar-powered artwork was built to symbolise Kalgoorlie-Boulder’s vibrant multicultural society and its thriving resource sector. “The Wending” stands as both an artistic and engineering marvel, showcasing how advanced manufacturing technologies like LFAM can bring ambitious artistic visions to life.
A Shared Future Vision
Hyperion Systems’ success with “The Wending” exemplifies what can be achieved when collaboration, technology, and sustainability align. At Aibuild, we’re honoured our software played a part in this groundbreaking achievement, and we look forward to continuing our partnerships as we shape the future of LFAM together.
Congratulations to Hyperion Systems, Linda Rae Belton, and everyone involved in bringing this inspiring project to life. “The Wending” stands as a beacon of what’s possible when we work together to redefine the limits of scale, creativity, and sustainability.
